For the second time this year, the students of Immaculate Conception school supported a Veteran moving into his own apartment. Jeffrey had been living out of his car, he is a seven year Gulf War Veteran. Thanks to these amazing students, Jeffrey now has everything he needs for his home. IC Students are truly making a difference for our Veterans!
The Imagine Project is so grateful to the Student Council at Immaculate Conception School in Marlborough for their incredible support of our Veterans! We were so happy to meet with them and share stories of our work and how they can make a difference in the lives of our Veterans! The students at IC raised $385.00 from “Dress Down Days” where they raise money for a local charity by dressing out of uniforms on special days. The funds from the Student Council went directly to Vielka and her children who moved into their own home!
We are so happy to share that Imagine has supported our 27th Veteran, Christopher and his 11 year old son with moving into their own home! With a full move-in kit, complete with a Captain America blanket and a Patriots teddy bear, they are very excited to be in their own home!
Imagine Ambassador, Joey, speaks with local Marlborough cable station about his experience supporting our Happy Holidays for our Heroes event. Joey and his siblings have been supporting Imagine since it started working with Veterans in 2010. Imagine is so grateful to currently have 17 Ambassadors between the ages of 8-17. Our 6th Annual Christmas Eve celebration was the most successful Happy Holidays for our Heroes event thus far! A huge thank you to our 21 Imagine Ambassadors who arrived at 6 am to serve a hot breakfast to over 95 homeless Veterans. We also had a team of 13 volunteers that helped us package, distribute and deliver hundreds of new shoes, boots, shirts, jeans, hats, gloves, socks, sweatshirts, blankets and gift baskets to Veterans in need throughout central Massachusetts. Our ambassadors also enjoyed playing some basketball with our Veterans!
What an honor to support Jim with everything for his kitchen, bath and bed at his his beautiful new place. Special thanks to our Ambassador Anna for helping Jim get settled. A tailor by trade, Imagine got Jim a sewing machine, he now happily hems and repairs clothes for his neighbors!
I had the great privilege to share the story of The Imagine Project during The 200 Foundation’s 51st Annual Dinner last month. With over 300 guests in attendance, the Foundation honored One Mission, an organization focused on improving hospital conditions for families with children with cancer. Imagine and United Way were also highlighted during the evening.
We were able to share Imagine’s focus on four core areas:
- Supporting Veterans moving from shelters into their own home
- Recreational activities – twice monthly pizza & game nights
- Community awareness including our Imagine Ambassador program
- Veterans programs support
Imagine was so fortunate to raise additional funds during the event which will be used toward some recreational programs for our Veterans. We are currently planning a fall foliage trip for our Heroes!
We started 2015 by moving two amazing Marines into their new homes this past March, Al and Jimmy. Fortunately, they are close friends and their apartments were within the same multi-family. Thanks to our great supporters we were able to provide them with a new bed frame and mattress, everything needed to cook including pots, pans, baking dishes, dinnerware, utensils and all the items needed for their bathroom including towels, bath mats, shower curtains and even cleaning supplies. Thanks to some great supporters who helped us with gently used furniture including a sleep sofa and a beautiful kitchen set for Jimmy (who plans to double the items for some outdoor furniture for when the weather is nice) and a fabulous leather couch and another great table and chairs for Al. We were so fortunate to have three of our Imagine Ambassadors to help us with the move – special thanks to Joey, Chris and Mike. We could never have moved everything without you guys!
Welcome Imagine Ambassadors to your blog! Share your stories about handing out one of your ambassador cards.
